1000 Books Before Kindergarten Reading Challenge Available in Beanstack!1000 Books Before Kindergarten Logo

To participate, register your child(ren) in the 1000 Books Before Kindergarten reading challenge by visiting Beaman Library's Beanstack page. Then, visit Beaman Library, borrow Beaman Library books, and read them to your child(ren). Every book you read counts as one book toward completing your 1,000 books. There is no need to write down the title! If your child(ren) have a favorite that you read multiple times over your check out period, each time you read the book counts too! Along the way you will earn virtual badges as you climb your way to the top of the challenge. Once completed, the participant will receive a handcrafted book bag and certificate of achievement. Kanopy Kids Available!

Kanopy Kids LogoBeaman Library has added nearly 30,000 movies and other videos that inspire, educate and entertain, via Kanopy. Free to cardholders who live in West Boylston*, Kanopy’s unique selection offers something for everyone, from award winning indie films to important and timely documentaries, to foreign films, popular cinema, children’s shows and more.

Many of Kanopy’s videos are not available on Netflix or any other streaming video platform, and the experience is easy-to-use and completely advertisement free. *If you do not live in West Boylston you can access Kanopy with a Boston Public Library ecard. Many libraries now have a subscription to Kanopy so check out the library in your town!

New Gale Databases Now Available!

The Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners (MBLC) and the Massachusetts Library System (MLS) are pleased to announce that our statewide online resources have been expanded. Our three current database vendors, Gale Cengage, Encyclopedia Britannica, and ProQuest will be joined by two new vendors, Transparent Languages, and Capstone, to provide the Commonwealth with statewide online reference, encyclopedia, early literacy, genealogy, and language learning products.

Some new database highlights include:

  • PebbleGo (Animals and Biographies modules), an easy to use, kid-friendly database aimed at students in grades K-3.
  • Transparent Language Online for Libraries, available as both a mobile app and on the web, provides lessons and language learning for more than 100 different languages.
  • Gale LegalForms offers a wide selection of Massachusetts-specific, customizable legal forms.
  • Gale Interactive Science is a virtual lab which gives students access to interactive 3D models along with guided lessons and lab activities.
  • Gale Presents Peterson's Test Prep is a companion to the Career Prep product, with help for a number of standardized tests and college research.

Weekly Programming:

Books and Blankies on Tuesdays at 10:15 a.m. and 11:15 a.m.
This is an early literacy program that runs in 6 week sessions during the school year. We have books, lap bounces, instrument play, parachute fun, and bubbles! For children ages 18 months to 3 years. Registration required for entire session. 

Virtual Story Time on Wednesdays at 4:00 p.m.
Hear some fun stories on Beaman Library's YouTube channel that will keep your kids entertained while you prepare dinner! Contact the Library for access information.

Mother Goose with Ms. Sandie on Thursdays at 10:15 a.m.
This gentle literacy program is for the youngest patrons. There will be songs, stories, simple sign language, parenting tips, lap bounces, etc. For children between the ages of birth and 18 months. Registration required for entire session. 

Books and Blankies Senior on Thursdays at 11:15 a.m.
Have a little fun prepping for your future kindergarten year by joining us for some songs, stories, crafts, and literacy skills. This program runs in 6 week sessions. For children 4 to 5 years of age. Registration required for entire session. 

Friday First Chapters on Fridays at 4:00 p.m.
Hear the first chapters of two early reader chapter books and two advanced reader chapter books on Beaman Library's Children's Room Facebook page. Then you can come into the Library to check them out if you wish!

Saturday Storytime at 11:00 a.m.
Stop by, hear some fun stories, and dance around a bit!

Pokemon Club

New Children's Books!

ASLdeafined

ASLdeafined logo

Your Beaman Library card now provides access to ASLdeafined, a program that teaches American Sign Language. Access over 300 lessons, a video dictionary of over 15,000 words, and other tools and resources to boost your learning. You can track your progress with ASLdeafined's progress chart and see how far you’ve come. This is a great tool for new parents communicating with their young children, parents/children who have an interest in learning this skill, and interacting with the deaf community.
